Computer Operator Government Job in Nepal

Computer Operator is one of the most applied-for entry-level technical roles in Nepal's civil service — thousands of candidates compete each cycle for a limited number of seats. Here's how Lok Sewa Aayog positions and institute-level Computer Operator vacancies work, what the exam involves, and how to prepare.

Non-Gazetted First Class · Level 4NPR 28,000–59,000 / monthAge 18–35 (40 for women/PWD)200 marks written + practical + interview

Salary and eligibility numbers below are compiled from public PSC job requirements and salary guides. Confirm exact figures on psc.gov.np or your specific vacancy notice before making decisions based on them.

How Recruitment Works

Computer Operator vacancies open through two tracks, and which one you're looking at changes the level, the appointing body, and sometimes the syllabus.

Positions filled through the Public Service Commission's (Lok Sewa Aayog) open competitive exam are classified as Non-Gazetted First Class, Level 4, under the Miscellaneous Service, Computer Group. These are advertised nationally on the PSC portal and in the official gazette, and follow a standard PSC exam pattern.

PSC Exam Pattern

The standard Computer Operator examination has four stages.

StageFormatMarksDuration
Paper OneObjective (MCQ)10045 minutes
Paper TwoSubjective100~2 hours
Practical TestTyping speed & software skills——
InterviewFinal evaluation——

Paper One splits into General Awareness & Public Management (40 marks) and Job-Based Knowledge (60 marks). Institute-run exams often follow similar logic but adjust weighting or timing — always check the specific notice.

Detailed Syllabus

While standard Loksewa exams follow a set structure, specific government corporations and bodies (like Nepal Oil Corporation, Nepal Electricity Authority, etc.) have institution-specific syllabus variations. We have mapped the complete Level 4 and Level-5 syllabus and official PDF downloads.

Eligibility & PSC Job Requirements

  • Education: Passed 10+2 (higher secondary) or an equivalent qualification.
  • Training: 3–6 months of computer training from a recognized institution. Full marks in a computer subject during +2 or above can waive this requirement.
  • Age: 18–35 years (up to 40 for women and candidates with disabilities).
  • Citizenship: Nepali citizenship, as with all Lok Sewa Aayog positions.

Salary & Civil Service Career Path

Monthly pay generally runs NPR 28,000 to NPR 59,000, depending on grade level, experience, and allowances — transport, housing, and dearness allowance are added on top of base pay. Government roles also carry provident fund contributions, gratuity, and a pension after retirement, with a path toward a Computer Officer role through internal competitive exams later in your civil service career.

How to Find and Apply for a Lok Sewa Vacancy

Federal vacancies are published on the PSC portal and in the Gorkhapatra gazette; local-level and institute vacancies are announced separately by each hiring body. Applications go through the PSC's online portal for federal posts.
