Write short notes on System Software and Application Software.

System software manages hardware and provides a platform; application software does user tasks. Both are needed — Windows alone cannot write a letter, Word alone cannot run without Windows.

System software:

1. OS — Windows, Linux; manages CPU, memory, files.
2. Language processors — Compiler (C++), interpreter (Python) converting code to machine language.
3. Drivers — Printer, graphics drivers linking OS to devices.
4. Utilities — Antivirus, backup, defragmenter for maintenance.

Application software:

1. General-purpose — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, browsers used everywhere including NOC depots for stock letters.
2. Customized — NOC fuel-stock system, payroll, billing built for one office.
3. Example pair: Windows (system) + MS-Excel fuel ledger (application) — Excel calculates, Windows manages printer to print it.
