The Information Technology Policy, 2072 (2015) was formulated by the Government of Nepal to guide the development and use of information technology across the country.

Objectives:

  1. To develop IT infrastructure throughout Nepal
  2. To promote e-governance and digital public services
  3. To develop skilled IT human resources
  4. To promote IT industry and create employment
  5. To ensure cyber security and data protection
  6. To bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas

Key Provisions:

  1. IT Infrastructure — Development of broadband connectivity, data centers, and IT parks across all provinces.
  2. E-Governance — Mandatory digitization of all government services, creation of national data center, and implementation of Government Enterprise Architecture (GEA).
  3. Human Resource Development — IT education in schools from basic level, scholarship programs for IT studies, and training programs for government employees.
  4. IT Industry Promotion — Tax incentives for IT companies, establishment of IT Special Economic Zones, and support for startups.
