Model answer
An Operating System (OS) manages hardware/software resources and bridges user and computer (Windows, Linux). Consistent definition across papers.
Functions:
- Process management — Schedules CPU, multitasking (Board report typing + tea-price print + scan together).
- Memory management — Allocates RAM, virtual memory, isolates programs so one crash does not kill others.
- File management — Folders, naming, search, NTFS permissions for farmer records.
- Device management — Drivers, spooling/buffering (queue district reports to one printer).
- Security — Accounts, passwords, MFA, audit logs; admin vs clerk rights protect subsidy data.
Without OS, staff would operate hardware in machine code — OS gives easy GUI/CLI.
